David E. Sloan is Chair of Van Cott's Tax, Estate & Benefit Planning Group.  Mr. Sloan represents individuals, estates, and trusts in a variety of areas, including estate planning, probate, estate and trust administration, charitable giving, state and local taxation, retirement plan distributions, tax-free exchanges, matters before the IRS, and other general tax and business planning matters. In the estate planning area, Mr. Sloan has worked extensively with income, gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues. In addition, he also organizes and advises a variety of business entities, including S Corporations, C Corporations, limited and general partnerships, limited liability companies, and tax-exempt organizations. Mr. Sloan graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in Accounting (cum laude, 1987); an MBA (1990); and a JD (1990) (member, Utah Law Review, Order of the Coif). He has spoken on tax and estate planning topics on numerous occasions.  Mr. Sloan has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of Trusts and Estates (2006-2012), Litigation - Trusts and Estates (2012) and Tax Law (2006-2007); he has also been listed in Mountain States Super Lawyers in the areas of Estate Planning and Probate (2007-2011) and Tax (2009); and he is listed in Utah Business Magazine as one of the 2012 Utah Legal Elite in the area of Estate Planning.
