James R. Farmer, Ph.D. is Of Counsel with the firm's Intellectual Property Section. His practice involves patent litigation and prosecution, opinion preparation, license agreements, due diligence, and counseling in a wide range of technical disciplines including aerospace, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering. James previously held post-doctoral fellowships at Princeton University and Brigham Young University, where he specialized in the areas of engineering physics, fluid mechanics, and applied mathematics. James also recently completed a year-long sabbatical at NASA Ames Research Center where, as a senior research scientist, he focused on computer simulations of aerothermodynamic heat loads experienced by planetary entry vehicles, including the heat-shield systems for the Mars Science Laboratory and the Crew Module component of Orion, part of the next generation space shuttle.
