The Summer Experience
Assignments
The summer experience at VanCott is designed to provide a realistic view of what it is like to work at our firm. By providing a single point of contact for assignments, you will experience working with a number of attorneys in varied practice areas. You will also be given the opportunity to experience researching and writing memos, pleadings and other documents; drafting correspondence with clients or opposing counsel; and attending client meetings, hearings, and depositions. You will have the opportunity to assist in the updating of the Utah section of the annual Martindale-Hubbell Law Digest.
In addition to work assignments, you will have opportunities to interface with attorneys through participation in the monthly attorney luncheons, "brown bag" lunch presentations, CLE seminars, practice and section group meetings, and one on one lunches.
Feedback
For each assignment, you will receive formal feedback from the supervising attorney to assess writing, analytical and interpersonal skills. Feedback is designed to review overall performance and to provide input for ongoing improvement.
Social Activities
While the primary purpose of the summer program at VanCott is to provide a realistic view of life as an associate at the firm, VanCott coordinates a number of opportunities to interact with firm members in non-work environment, including golf outings, concerts, and dinners with members of the firm.
