"AND JUSTICE FOR ALL" is pleased to announce that Gregory P. Williams will chair the Leadership Committee effective October 1, 2006. The Leadership Committee oversees an annual campaign that raises funds to support civil legal aid programs for Utahns who would otherwise not have access to our system of justice—families in poverty, people with disabilities, and those facing other barriers. While an attorney is guaranteed in criminal cases, no such right exists in civil cases.
Mr. Williams is a shareholder in the Salt Lake City office of VanCott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, practicing in commercial real estate and natural resources. He along with a committee of 35 will oversee the annual campaign, which provides on-going support to the Disability Law Center , Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake and Utah Legal Services. Recent annual grants also provide support for legal aid programs at Catholic Community Services, Community Mediation Center , DNA-Navajo Legal Services, International Rescue Committee, Holy Cross Ministries, Multi-Cultural Legal Center and Utah Dispute Resolution.
“AND JUSTICE FOR ALL” endeavors to help disadvantaged Utahns obtain the legal representation needed to secure their most basic needs—physical safety, family stability, habitable shelter, healthcare access, and equal protections. Whether it’s a woman trying to escape a violent spouse, a child with a disability needing an education plan, or a senior citizen protecting her limited resources; legal advocacy is often the most cost-efficient way to address issues before they spiral out of control.
In addition to the annual campaign, “and Justice for all” operates the country’s first Community Legal Center to co-locate a state’s primary civil legal aid providers in one location while achieving significant operating efficiencies, and works with numerous stakeholders to coordinate legal aid efforts and avoid duplication of services.
